Oregon Organic Hazelnuts Coop - History

The Oregon Organic Hazelnuts Cooperative got its start in January 2017.  We held monthly new member meetings throughout 2017 to determine if there was enough interest to launch it as an agricultural cooperative.  In February 2018, we decided to make it official and it was incorporated as an agricultural cooperative in Oregon in April 2018.  We then held an election for its formative year Board of Directors to begin outlining the priorities, defining the Bylaws, and creating the basic marketing and promotion strategies for Oregon Organic Hazelnuts.  Any current member of OOH is welcome to attend our monthly Board meetings.  Anyone interested in organic hazelnut production is welcome to join  our Summer Organic Hazelnut Tour in August each year.   Please send us an email via our Contact page if you would like to get involved with us!

Meet the Growers in our Coop!

Honor Earth Farm

Honor Earth Farm grows 32 acres of organic hazelnuts (Casinas, Willamettes) on the southeast side of Eugene, OR.  Our farm got its start in 2008 and has been growing and marketing our organic hazelnuts through 2017.  In 2018, we have leased the orchard to My Brothers Farm, another OHGA member.  Having a year off from orchard management allows Linda Perrine time for organizing the OHGA and helping grow new growers, Coop members and other work that contributes to more organic hazelnut production in the Willamette Valley.

Meridian Orchards

Meridian Orchards is a third generation hazelnut farm located in Aurora, OR.

Trufflebert Farm

Nestled in the hills outside of Eugene, Oregon, our spring-fed Hazelnut trees currently produce an annual crop of just over 25,000 pounds. The size of our harvests allows us to focus on the overall quality of our product. In fact, we are the Hazelnut provider to premiere restaurants and grocers nationally, in part because of our many BLUE RIBBONS won at the Lane County and Oregon State Fairs.

Lackner Brothers Farm

Lackner Family Farm has been in the Lackner family since 1962.  The farm is a split operation with conventional grass seed farming in conjunction with a young hazelnut orchard.  We have 10 acres of certified organic Sacajawea and 17 acres transitional McDonald variety hazelnuts.  The farm values family, hard work and being good stewards of the land by continually building fertility and soil health, creating a diverse habitat.

My Brothers Farm

My Brothers’ Farm stewards 320 acres of the Southern Willamette Valley by growing a variety of crops that build soil health, increase water quality, and strengthen our community through our production techniques and partnerships with local people and organizations.

We grow four main varieties of hazelnuts in our mixed orchards:

Yamhill,Sacajawea,McDonald,Wepster

Coconut Bliss

Inspired by the many uses of coconut milk in other cuisines, Luna and Larry decided to try it as a base for ice cream. Working with a simple, hand-crank ice cream maker, they came up with the perfect recipe: organic coconut milk sweetened with agave. They began to play with unique flavor combinations, sharing their new creations with friends and building a dedicated following. Their vision for a great tasting dairy-free, gluten-free ice cream, made with the highest quality organic ingredients, is our daily inspiration.

Sohr Performance & Nutrition Beverages

Sohr is creating an entire beverage product line with protein derived from Oregon Organic Hazelnuts.
